A Summer Wedding in Tuscany Italy: A Small Ancient Church and a Private Villa in Italy Make for One Romantic Destination Wedding

Is there anything more romantic than a destination wedding in Tuscany, Italy? Not according to this Toronto couple.

A small, ancient Tuscan church on a hill overlooking Florence was where Angee, 27, and Paul, 30, both visual artists, said their vows.

“The beauty of the church was breathtaking,” says Angee, who, like her husband, was drawn to the region for its rich history in art.

Surrounded by 60 guests, the couple had a traditional Catholic ceremony, followed by a reception at a private villa in the Chianti hills.

“It was in an area punctuated with olive trees and vineyards,” says Angee, adding that the villa provided accommodations for the guests who attended the romantic destination wedding.

Guests enjoyed cocktails in the private garden, followed by a six-course dinner combining traditional Tuscan fare, in the estate dining room.

“Everyone was commenting on how elegant and romantic our wedding was,” says Angee.

Angee says she was quite surprised that so many guests attended the wedding – given how far they had to travel.

“We didn’t expect so many guests. We both, however, come from rather large families. Most came from Canada, although we have some friends living in France, Hungary and England. We sent invitations to everyone that we would have invited if our wedding had been in Toronto and didn’t really have to convince anyone to come. Many vacation in the summer anyway – what better place than Tuscany?” says Angee.

Hiring a wedding planner made the planning stress-free, she says.

“Our wedding planner in Tuscany works with a liaison in the U.S. who is bilingual and knows Italy. This was helpful because I could speak with her on the phone instead of always via email,” she says, adding that the romantic destination wedding took eight months to plan and cost approximately $15,000.

Did her wedding in Tuscany live up to her expectations?

“We’re already thinking about a trip back there soon!” says Angee.
