A Morning Wedding inside the Smith Tower, Seattle
Christina, James and 50 of their guests had a birds-eye view of the beautiful Seattle skyline for their morning wedding.
The couple chose the Smith Tower in Seattle, WA to say their 'I do’s'.
“The Chinese Room inside the Smith Tower was the perfect location for holding both the ceremony and reception for your morning wedding. The view is spectacular,” says Christina.
The Smith Tower, which was first opened in 1914, has 42 stories and was Seattle’s first skyscraper.
The Chinese Room, called the ‘crown jewel’ of the Smith Tower is located on the 35th floor of the building.
Originally furnished by the last empress of China, the room features a hand-carved wood and porcelain-inlay ceiling, hand-carved furniture and 17th century artwork. The Chinese Room is also home to the famed ‘wishing chair’, which is said to import the promise of marriage within one year to any wishful woman who sits upon it.
Surrounding the Chinese Room is a wrap-around, outdoor deck called the Smith Tower Observation Deck that offers panoramic views of downtown Seattle, including its historic waterfront, as well as the Olympic and Cascade Mountain Ranges.
The couple held both their ceremony and reception in the Chinese Room.
“It’s a small venue with personality and history,” says Christina.
A friend of James’s, who was ordained online, performed the ceremony, which was written by the bride and groom.
“We wrote our own vows … It was very personal,” says Christina.
The reception immediately followed the 10:30 a.m. ceremony.
Gourmet caterers provided a vegetarian, sit-down feast for the guests, while a jazz band provided music.
“The service from our caterers was seamless and true perfection. I felt so pampered and cared for. It was sad how quickly the day slipped away,” says Christina.
Although it was a morning wedding, Christina says she still wanted elegant touches – including fine china, and linens.
After the meal, the couple, along with their guests, took in the sights of Seattle on the observation deck just as the sun began to set.
Christina says she couldn’t imagine a better venue for celebrating her nuptials.
“I still can’t believe we were so lucky to have found this place!” she says.
She also has no regrets about having a morning wedding.
“Though I hate getting up in the morning, I was very happy we had a morning wedding. We chose this largely because it was a Sunday wedding, and thought very few people would want to come out for a Sunday evening wedding,” says Christina. “Since we were done so early in the day, (4 p.m.), we still had so much time to relax and get to our wedding night destination and a private dinner together. It was perfect!” |
