Pimple Patrol: Zits & Other Petty Pre-wedding Details
Four days before my wedding my face began breaking out (as it is known to do during times of major excitement and stress.) Of most concern was the zit on my chin. It wasn’t just a teeny tiny little dot – but a swollen red beastie. (At least my distorted pre-wedding perception saw it that way.) I prayed that it would go way.
Although the worst of the break out was over by the time the wedding came around, the zit on my chin remained. I applied several coats of cover-up in an effort to mask it. It worked somewhat, but I was still self-conscious. What about the pictures, I thought? It was going to be in all the pictures! Fortunately the photographer put my mind at ease. He assured me that if the little bugger managed to show up in the photos that it could be magically removed with Photoshop. Ah, the wonders of technology!
Although you can’t prevent stress-induced acne, there are steps you can take to reduce your chances of breaking out on your big day. First, don’t use any products that you don’t normally use. Stick with tried and true cleaners, cleansers, moisturizers and make up. Pamper your skin before the wedding (try a clay mask if you’ve used one before), and always wash your face before bed. If you do find yourself breaking out just before your wedding day, you might want to consult with a cosmetician to find out the best method of covering up your break out. Also, talk with your photographer. Ask him if he has blemish patrol software (a.k.a Adobe Photoshop.) Chances are he does.
Zits happen, even on your wedding day. Put it in perspective. I know, I know, it’s difficult to do because we want our weddings to be perfect - to go as planned. We don’t want to have to deal with unwanted surprises on our noses, cheeks and chins. But in the grand scheme of things, be reassured that the pimple on your face is about as significant as what you ate for breakfast on your first day of kindergarten. Maybe even less. Besides, the love of your life doesn’t really give a damn. Why should you?
