A Winter Wonderland Wedding: Couple Chooses a Snowflake Wedding Theme for their Romantic Winter Nuptials
Christine and Jon had a winter wonderland wedding three days after Christmas in an historic hotel in Edmonton, Alberta.
“We wanted a beautiful location to have both our ceremony and reception,” says Christine. “This historic hotel in our city fit the bill perfectly.”
Because of the time of year, they chose a snowflake wedding theme.
The couple wrote their own ceremony, and had a close friend officiate. Because there were several children in attendance, the couple decided to keep the ceremony as short as possible, and did not have any readings.
“I knew all along that I wanted to make the entire wedding child friendly … 20 percent of our guests were under the age of 13,” says Christine.
A four-course meal at the inn followed the ceremony. An open mic during the reception gave guests an opportunity to toast the couple. She said it was the highlight of the reception.
“We had some people give very moving speeches and toasts that brought tears to many an eye,” says Christine.
Because of the time of year, the couple chose a snowflake wedding theme for their romantic winter wonderland wedding.
“I made sure everything tied in with that,” says Christine. “It was absolutely beautiful.”
How did they create the snowflake theme?
- They used ice blue, silver and white for their wedding colors.
- Wedding programs had a snowflake design, and table numbers were printed on paper with a snowflake design.
- Centerpieces were luminaries with snowflake flakes cut out of the side of them.
- The wedding cake was covered in snowflakes – white to varying shades of blue.
- The cake topper was a crystal snowflake ornament.
- The couple winter favors to tie in with the theme. They gave each wedding guest a glass-top tin, with a snowflake design, filled with Tic Tacs, as well as handmade blue soap rounds with a white snowflake design on top, and handmade blue and white magnets – all distributed in ice blue organza bags.
Christine says her winter wonderland wedding couldn’t have been lovelier.
“At the end of the day, I was so glad we chose a small wedding. A big wedding would have been fun … but it was so much more meaningful just to be surrounded by the people we truly love – those who really know us,” she says.
