DIY Wedding Ideas: Get Friends and Family Involved!

As they say, many hands make light work – and that applies to weddings too! Not only does involving your friends and family on your DIY wedding ideas help to spread the work around, it also makes your big day even more special. And it saves you money.

Maybe you have a brother who’s a whiz on the computer. Why not have him create a personal wedding page? Maybe your mom is a master decorator? Why not enlist her help in decorating the venue? Perhaps your best friend is a talented pianist. Why not have her play piano during the ceremony?

Getting friends and family involved can be a lot of fun. However, it’s not for everyone. If you’d rather have all of your wedding day details professionally done, then it’s better to keep your friends and family out of your plans and let them help our with the less creative DIY wedding ideas (i.e. bringing your gown to the cleaners, making sure leftover food is put away etc.)

Involving loved ones can also mean a loss of control. Your sister, for instance, might be willing to create your wedding invitations but if her ideas don’t gel with yours, conflict may arise. That’s one stress you don’t need!

Just because people offer help, doesn’t mean you have to take them up on it. Be gracious when declining their help – but don’t put yourself on a guilt trip because you don’t accept it.

What if you want help from friends and family, but no one has offered up their services? It can’t hurt to ask them! They might not have offered because they didn’t want to impose on your plans. Just make sure that you are specific about what type of help you need to avoid miscommunication.
